A group of GCIT students have just returned from an exciting week of overseas immersive program, marking the first time GCIT students travelled to Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), Singapore through our GCIT SPARK International Students Programme!
Thankful to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with NYP and GCIT President in November last year, the students explored Singapore’s rich history, and learning from innovation and entrepreneurship experts at NYP, co-creating and pitching start up ideas, and visiting cutting-edge companies.
At NYP, our students toured the School of Business’s Teaching Enterprise Project (TEP) Centres, designed to mirror real workplace settings and equip learners with hands-on, industry-relevant experience. They also took part in a Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship class, which combined design thinking process with Lean Business Model Canvas to equip our Tech students with the ability to design, test, and evaluate entrepreneurial ideas that are desirable and feasible for minimal viable prototypes.
NYP also arranged Company visits to further enrich student learning. At Sqreem students discovered how AI and big data are used to understand human behaviour and drive data-driven decisions. astartcentral introduced them to Singapore’s leading innovation and research ecosystem under the Agency for Science Technology and Research (A*STAR), showing how scientific research translates into real-world solutions. Recalling the visit Sapuna Mongar (fourth-year, Blockchain development) shared that the visit made her believe in the power of data-driven decisions to enhance Bhutan’s De-Fi future.
GCIT Students also connected closely with NYP student peers, sharing ideas, cultures, and perspectives. They have built lifelong friendships and a vibrant learning community that extended far beyond the classroom.
Reflecting on the whole experience Karma Tenzin (third-year, AI and Data Science) said, “This trip is like classroom beyond borders, from NYP’s inspiring classes to eye-opening company visits. The NYP–GCIT collaboration showed us the power of shared knowledge, and we return home with new perspectives, new skills, and a deeper understanding of how different environments shape learning."
Our Madam President thank the NYP team for arranging this unforgettable educational and cultural exchange that has broadened GCIT students towards global friendships and potentially collaborating on cross cultural research work. We look forward to creating even more impactful collaborations between GCIT and NYP in the future and welcome the next batch of NYP students to Bhutan in March 2026.
