Exploring Mindful Play at GCIT:Introducing Rollpa

calendar_monthApril 24, 2026

On April 22, our students were introduced to the unique Bhutanese board game Rollpa, created by Namdrul Jyamtsho, and inspired by the values of Gross National Happiness (GNH).

The game reflects the 9 domains of GNH while encouraging meaningful human connections, reducing screen time, and bringing people together in a fun and mindful way

Introducing the game Pema Lhamo Tamang said that the game carries a deeper message: life is all about balance. “With concepts like “Rollpa” (the illusion of life), players are guided to reflect, stay present, and find harmony within themselves and others. It’s more than just a game; it’s a journey of awareness and mindfulness”

Initiatives like this remind us that learning goes beyond textbooks, and that games like this can support students’ well-being and interpersonal skills.
