Our first-year students officially began their college journey with a fun and meaningful week of orientation. From getting to know the campus and their courses to meeting new friends and familiarizing themselves with college life, the week gave our freshers a chance to settle in, connect with one another, and feel at home.

A key highlight was their interaction with Madam President, who warmly welcomed them and shared her vision for their journey at GCIT. She highlighted GCIT’s commitment to developing skilled and future-ready graduates who can contribute meaningfully to the nation and respond to Bhutan’s evolving workforce needs. With this vision, GCIT continues to build the talent pool the country need through its specialised programmes across the School of Future Computing (SFC) and the School of Interactive Design and Development (SIDD).

Taking the conversation further, Madam President introduced the students to the layers of the modern AI and technology ecosystem: Energy, Chips, Infrastructure, Models, and Applications. She explained that while strengthening the foundational layers are important to building Bhutan’s technological capacity, there is also a significant opportunity for our youth to create impact at the upper layers by developing meaningful applications and igniting innovations that address Sovereign solutions.

Madam President also gave students an insight into what they can expect from their respective SFC and SIDD programmes from foundations, specialisation, experimentation to industry advocacy such as Open-Weight and Open-Source readiness.

She challenged the students to rethink what it means to be productive in the age of Agentic, Cyber Security & Quantum technologies. She encouraged the students to stay curious, embrace new experiences, and make the most of the opportunities available to them, both inside and beyond the classroom.

As they begin this exciting new chapter, we look forward to seeing our first-year students grow into confident, capable, and future-ready professionals, discover their potential, and contribute to shaping the future of Bhutan.  Tashi Delek la!
