A total of 25 students forming 5 teams from our college participated in the Blockchain Skills Bootcamp & Hackathon 2026 held from May 11 to 17. Organized by GovTech Bhutan with support from the Ethereum Foundation, the program brought together participants from GCIT, CST, 21 Tech, and Tashicell to develop innovative blockchain-based solutions while gaining mentorship, networking, and industry exposure opportunities.
We are especially proud that GCIT student Sonam Chophel Dorji from Team SORA received Special Recognition and earned a DevCon 2026 ticket for his exceptional innovation during the hackathon.
Reflecting on the experience, he shared, “Receiving special recognition at the Blockchain Skills Bootcamp & Hackathon 2026 and the opportunity to attend DevCon 2026 is something I’m truly grateful for, but this recognition is not mine alone, it reflects the effort, support, and sacrifices of my teammates and friends from Team SORA and Team Casper, whose collaboration made this possible. The experience was incredibly enriching, thanks to the well-curated program by GovTech Bhutan, inspiring mentors from the Ethereum Foundation, and the support from GCIT. My biggest takeaway is that meaningful innovation is built through collaboration, and I wish the teams continuing to develop their ideas the very best towards creating real impact”
The hackathon provided GCIT students with valuable hands-on experience in blockchain technology, teamwork, innovation, and problem-solving while strengthening the college’s role in Bhutan’s growing digital innovation ecosystem.
Congratulations to all participating students for representing GCIT with passion and creativity.
